Born and raised in Edmonton, he completed his medical training at the University of Alberta and dermatology residency at the University of British Columbia. Following residency, he practiced in Burnaby and Vancouver for 5 years before returning to his home of Edmonton, where he could be closer to family. During his time in Vancouver, he was a clinical instructor with UBC and involved in training medical students, family medicine and dermatology residents. He served his colleagues as President of the Dermatology Society of British Columbia and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology. He holds membership with the Canadian Dermatology Association, American Academy of Dermatology, and European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.

He actively attends and presents at national and international conferences, assists in training medical students and residents with an interest in dermatology, and provides continuing medical education to family physicians in his community.

Dr. Michael Samycia specializes in medical dermatology and holds certification in both Canada and the United States. He recently joined, and currently practices at our clinic here at Symmetry Dermatology.  He believes patient education is crucial to positive patient outcomes and values spending time with his patients to assess, treat and counsel them on their conditions. His current wait time is 1-3 weeks.

He accepts referrals for:

  • All skin, hair, and nail issues
  • Excisions for skin cancers, cysts and other lumps and bumps

His special interests include skin cancer, psoriasis, eczema, acne, and hidradenitis suppurativa.

Beyond work, Dr. Montasser can be found spending his time cycling, cross-country skiing, working out, or pursuing his passion for photography. He is always on the hunt for good coffee and food and enjoys exploring new places (so pass on any recommendations you may have).
